Using Webinars to Promote Your Business on a Tight Budget

A blog article from the Webinar Software Users Blog, addresses three interesting ways to promote your webinar on a budget. Not only is this blog entry appropriate considering the still-tough economic climate, but more importantly, it keeps businesses current with smart, social media and networking tools.

First off, why do a webinar and how is this tool effective or even relevant to your business needs? Well, a webinar is a means of communication that is more personal than an advertisement/promotion. Advertisements tend to be one-sided and in-personal. A webinar allows a business to promote itself while interacting with consumers. This ensures true understanding of consumer needs and strengthens the relationship between businesses and consumers.

Wikipedia defines a webinar as:
“…a specific type of web conference. It is typically one-way, from the speaker to the audience with limited audience interaction, such as in a webcast. A webinar can be collaborative and include polling and question & answer sessions to allow full participation between the audience and the presenter. In some cases, the presenter may speak over a standard telephone line, while pointing out information being presented onscreen, and the audience can respond over their own telephones, speaker phones allowing the greatest comfort and convenience.”

Free Web Conferencing and Free Webinar ServiceNow that we have touched on what webinars are and their advantages, let’s get back to the subject of budget-friendly promotions. The Webinar Software Users Blog article suggests that there are creative means of promotion other than the obvious social media-based tools like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook. I agree that Twitter can be a great, free promotional tool, but what do you do for the “non-tweeting” public? Believe it or not, there are many people, who use the internet, that are not logged-on to such popular sites.

AnyMeeting is a free webinar service, which hosts up to 200 attendees and offers tools like: phone conferencing, video broadcasting, screen sharing (this can encompass anything on your screen, like PowerPoint slides) text chat, survey and polling features, registration tools, and more for free!

Email is still effective, as long as it does not appear annoying or “spammy.” Having a special guest speaker for your upcoming webinar is a great way to encourage registrations. An influential speaker will generate buzz, enticing and exciting potential attendees. If chosen appropriately, this guest speaker-aspect is a promotion in itself. This appears to be a financially-savvy move if the speaker is willing to participate for free or a small fee, and able to promote his or herself in return. The guest speaker will ultimately promote this event to his or her own network, creating potential for more exposure to your business, and a new customer-base.
